Bob White's Kenpo
Fighting Techniques Video 1

This
is a very good video done by Mr. Bob White (9th Degree American Kenpo).
There are some solid sparring concepts dealing with off angle attacking, drills
to deal with a blitzing opponent and some excellent sparring footage from fights
over the years. Based on my experience doing the angled attacks in this video I
know that they definitely work and could be equated to a point guard who does a
shuffle fake, leaving his opponent on the ground. In this case you’ll leave
your opponent with his leg in the air attempting to kick, his backside open to
an attack or with his intent facing towards where you used to be. In two of
these three cases you’ll find that his centerline is completely exposed and
open for an attack. Needless to say I do recommend this video as a training
tool. One complaint that I have read in the past is that people consider this
video to be a little simplistic (they never use the term “easy” just
simplistic) in its approach and information covered. What these people don’t
realize is that as SGM Parker said, “sophistication is simplicity
compounded”. Also they don’t realize that those people that through the
years have been some of the greatest “fighting” martial artists did so with
only a few basic movements that they had honed to an above average level. In
this case Mr. White provides some master key ideas within freestyle that can
successfully take your sparring to another level. One thing is for sure, as with
any video, if the information isn’t practiced until it is redlined it will not
be internalized and therefore won’t work for you.
