| Mental Training of a Warrior Secrets of Kenpo Karate Secrets of Speed Kicking By Dr. John M. La Tourrette I've read all 3 of these books and I would recommend them to any Kenpo student. Mental training of a warrior is unlike any Kenpo book I had read before at the time. It is insightful. It is written from a warrior's perspective. It deals with concepts of combat in a very real way and Kenpo is always present. Secrets of Kenpo Karate (Dr. La Tourrette's 5th Dan Black Belt Thesis for Mr. Parker) is an excellent book that covers the basic concepts of kicking (i.e. single point balance) and striking. It includes self defense techniques and kind of reminds me of an Infinite Insights Volume on steroids. The last books Secrets of Speed Kicking covers a subject that I never gave very much deference to, kicking. I came from the school that kicking was for Tae Kwon Do Joe. Once I read this book, I began to realize the advantage to having great high kicks (which in turn equate to devastating low kicks) and the reach and power advantage that kicks present. I would honestly recommend all 3 of these books to any Kenpo student with a desire to learn as much about Kenpo as possible. |
