4 Common Myths.."Why I can't do/ don't need Karate..."
1) I'm too out of shape to take Karate. This is the most common and least true of all the excuses. It's not like lining up for a marathon where you have to train for months previously before participating. The martial arts are about self development and self improvement. A beach body is not a prerequisite.
2) I would never "fit in"...The list of participants are long and varied. From firefighters and law enforcement officers to admin assistants, IT techs, chef's and teachers of all nationalities and genders. Everyone can have a common interest in protecting themselves without losing who they are.
3) I own a gun/pepper spray or my husband will take care of me. Chance favors the prepared mind. Wouldn't it be good to not have to depend on those uncontrollable external factors that might not be at hand one late night...protect yourself and your family with principles and concepts of motion that don't require you to have been an athlete in high school.
4) I don't believe in violence and could never raise my hand to another. I deeply respect your position, but I also respect your right to protect yourself and your family. What would your family do without you? Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Life gives you the test (which sometimes may be violent and jarring), from there the lessons are taught. See me before you feel like you have too or if you've taken that test and you didn't like your score the first time. It is now time to reclaim yourself. This is real. Kenpo teaches both those attributes that allow one to survive confrontation and avoid it.
